Trucking employment turned in its second best month-to-month gain of the year in August. The question now is whether this event is a harbinger of the confirmation of the anecdotal evidence about firms wanting to hire more workers, or whether it is just a one-off. As we have mentioned several times, the trucking sector is undergoing structural changes on both the demand side (what freight gets shipped where and by whom) and on the supply side (who drives the truck and for how long). Thus, we are keenly interested to see how those factors are affecting the level of employment.
